BMX: Flying Fast and High

Today, in the first part of a seven-part series highlighting some of the events of this year's Tokyo Summer Games and Para-Sports Games, we bring you BMX Freestyle and all the excitement that comes with it!

Based on the racing culture from California, USA, BMX Freestyle is an urban sport that has grown from a grassroots “misfit” culture in the mid-1970’s to the spotlight of the Summer Games stage at Tokyo 2020. These Games celebrate BMX Freestyle joining the Games for the first time, with all the riders racing to become the first BMX Freestyle gold medalist. These events offer extreme tricks and chaotic speed and are sure to thrill all who watch them.

BMX events will be held at the Ariake Urban Sports Park, which has over 18,000 seats for BMX Freestyle, BMX Racing and Skateboarding events. This sports park is set in the impressive waterfront area, near the Athletes' Village and the Big Sight venue. Visitors to the BMX events will feel like they are in the center of all the action during these competitions.

In addition to the excitement of the BMX events, visitors are sure to enjoy the sights around the event venue. Located on a man made island in Tokyo Bay, Odaiba is known for its shopping and entertainment facilities.

In the Fuji TV Area, DiverCity Tokyo Plaza is a shopping, dining and entertainment complex with attractions related to the popular anime series, Gundam, and has a “life-size” Gundam statue protecting the area.

Head to the Telecom Center Area and you will find museums with exciting exhibitions on robots, space exploration, as well as a free museum about the history and technology of ships and shipping.

And of course, Big Sight Area, which hosts such large events as the Tokyo Motor Show and the Tokyo International Anime Fair.

For the sports lovers who just can’t get enough, TGI Fridays is the perfect spot to enjoy great western style food while soaking up sports on multiple screens. You’ll find TGI Fridays right on the waterfront in Odaiba, offering a great view in addition to excellent food and sports coverage.
